Why marketplaces disconnect — and how Closo reconnects them

Marketplaces hand out short-lived session cookies — sometimes as short as 15 minutes — and when those expire, Closo cannot post on your behalf until you or Closo Cloud refresh the connection.

When you see a yellow badge on Mercari in your sidebar, a reconnect prompt in the dashboard, or a bell notification about a marketplace going offline — that almost always means your session cookies for that marketplace expired. Closo can no longer make requests on your behalf to that marketplace until something refreshes them.

This is normal. Every marketplace gives out cookies that expire on purpose — it is how they keep accounts secure. The work Closo does is to refresh them silently so you never notice. Sometimes that refresh path hits a captcha or a rate limit, and we ask for your help.

Per-marketplace cookie lifetimes

Different marketplaces give out cookies with very different lifespans. Here is roughly how long each one stays valid before needing a refresh.

Mercari — about 30 minutes
Mercari's bot detection issues cookies that last about half an hour. Mercari has the shortest cookie lifetime of the four browser-based marketplaces.
Vinted — about 15 minutes (sign-in token)
Vinted issues a short sign-in token that lasts roughly 15 minutes, plus a longer refresh token good for about 5 days. The 15-minute window is the one Closo refreshes most often.
Poshmark — about 60 minutes
Poshmark's session (used by the site for both browse and listing actions) typically lasts an hour.
Depop — about 4 hours
Depop's session cookies have the longest lifetime of the four — about four hours under normal conditions.

How Closo handles refresh

On Free and Pro plans, the Closo Chrome extension refreshes your cookies in the background while Chrome is open. The extension wakes up roughly every 30 minutes (different cadence per marketplace), does a tiny background refresh, and goes back to sleep.

On Unlimited, Closo Cloud refreshes server-side every 10-30 minutes per marketplace — regardless of whether your Chrome is open. This is the difference between cookies that stay warm only when you are at your desk and cookies that stay warm 24 hours a day.

When refresh fails repeatedly — typically 5 times in 12 hours — Closo gets your attention: the marketplace badge in your sidebar turns yellow, a bell notification appears, and on Unlimited an email follows too. The alerts are so you do not have to babysit your dashboard.

When you will see a reconnect prompt

Reconnect prompts appear for a small set of reasons: you changed your marketplace password (the old session is no longer valid), the marketplace flagged your session for human verification (you need to solve a captcha in the marketplace's own browser), cookies expired and our automated refresh path could not silently renew them, or the extension was uninstalled / Chrome has not been open for several days and there is no fresh material to refresh.

How to reconnect

1. Open Marketplaces from your Account menu.

2. Find the yellow marketplace and click the Reconnect button next to it.

3. Log into the marketplace in the popup that appears. Closo reads the fresh cookies automatically.

4. Wait about 30 seconds. The badge should return to green.

Why this is necessary at all

Most marketplaces do not have a public API for listing, sharing, or refreshing items. Closo uses the same paths your browser uses — which means we have to refresh the same cookies your browser would refresh. The Unlimited tier's Closo Cloud removes the manual step for most cases by doing the refreshing on Closo's servers, on your behalf.
